STOP 0x80070246 ERROR_ILLEGAL_CHARACTER ?
I have a laptop having Microsoft vista as the operating system. I am using it from last two months and do not get any problem. One day I was trying to download the updates from the windows update on my laptop. At that time windows Vista is also running on my laptop and I got this message STOP 0x80070246 ERROR_ILLEGAL_CHARACTER on my laptop screen. I don’t know what type of this message is this? Can anyone help me out from this situation?

There is nothing to be worry about as this problem can be solved. STOP 0x80070246 ERROR_ILLEGAL_CHARACTER is an error message. GlobalInstallOrder.xml file has been corrupted therefore you are getting this situation. This GlobalInstallOrder.xml file is present in the subsequent location. %Windir%\\Winsxs\\x86_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_07289f4cca5f6990\\GlobalInstallOrder.xml You can solve this problem by replacing the corrupted GlobalInstallOrder.xml file with the similar file from the installation media of the windows vista. How to do this- 1) First from Windows Automated Installation Kit get the WIM filter driver. You can download the Windows AIK from the following link (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c7d4bc6d-15f3-4284-9123-679830d629f2&DisplayLang=en) 2) Then press start button. After pointing to All programs first click Microsoft windows AIK and then right click Windows PE tools Command Prompt, and finally press Run as administrator. 3) In the command prompt write MD c:\\Mount command and click enter 4) Place the Windows Vista Installation Media in the DVD or CD drive. 5) In the command prompt type Imagex /mount DVDDriveLetter\\sources\\install.wim 1 \\mount and click enter. Then type CD\\mount\\Windows\\winsxs\\x86_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_07289f4cca5f6990 and click enter. It moves to the source folder. Then type xcopy GlobalInstallOrder.xml %windir%\\winsxs\\x86_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_07289f4cca5f6990 and click enter. It copies the GlobalInstallOrder.xml file in the destination folder.
